Review methodology
How we research gear and guidance, what we label 'research-based,' and what we don't claim.
Research-based, not hands-on
Our gear guides are research-based comparisons, not hands-on test reports. We evaluate products against documented specifications, manufacturer instructions, and official safety guidance — then describe fit-for-purpose criteria so you can match a product to your situation.
Evidence labels
- Research: selected from manufacturer specs and public guidance, not tested by us.
- Spec-verified: a specific claimed specification was checked against a manufacturer or official source.
- Unverified: a candidate we have not yet confirmed; kept unpublished until verified.
What we don't do
- We don't invent ASINs, prices, stock, ratings, reviews, or test results.
- We don't scrape retailer listings or import customer reviews.
- We don't present AI-generated images as real product photos.
When to skip a product
We name who should skip a category and when a cheaper or already-owned alternative is sufficient. The goal is a useful decision, not a sale. See our affiliate disclosure for how commissions stay separate from editorial choices.
